We tested an unlocked version of the Moto e on Verizon and recorded impressive results, with average speeds of 48.7Mbps down and 18.1Mbps up. A separate Verizon version of the phone supports fewer LTE bands, and other carriers may choose to lock the phone to their networks. The Moto e is available unlocked and through a variety of carriers.

That said, it isn't waterproof, and it doesn't have an IP rating. And the phone is water repellent, which is uncommon for this price range. Motorola protects the front of the Moto e with strengthened a-Si glass, while the back panel and frame are made of sturdy-feeling plastic. The sensor is easy to set up and works well. The camera stack is located in the top left corner, while the fingerprint sensor is hidden behind the Motorola logo. The back of the phone is a glossy plastic that can easily pass for glass. The buttons are easy to recognize by touch, but small hands may have trouble reaching the volume controls. The left side holds a hybrid SIM slot, while a volume rocker and textured power button are located on the right. The top of the phone is home to a headphone jack, while a speaker and a micro USB charging port sit on the bottom.
